Tactics Production Presents:
Having achieved mainstream success with their second album, As Good As Dead (Polygram), and fueled by the multi-format hit single “Bound For The Floor,” Local H always has continued to bring the noise. Alongside writing, recording, and releasing records (including 1998′s critically acclaimed Pack Up The Cats and last year’s punk rock workout, The No Fun E.P.), Local H has maintained a remarkable touring schedule – and an incredibly loyal fan base to match – having “hit the road” with the likes of Stone Temple Pilots, Veruca Salt, Cheap Trick, C.O.C., Chevelle, and Burning Brides, to name a few.

Penguin Prison is Chris Glover from New York, who first rose to prominence with a college band called “The Smartest People at Bard”, whose demos came to the attention of Q-Tip and, through him, Interscope. A solo album for the Universal label followed in 2009 but it attracted scant attention, so in the same year Glover left, took up the new moniker and began gaining recognition with remixes, amongst others, for Goldfrapp, Marina & the Diamonds, Passion Pit.

- YACHT
YACHT is a musical moniker created by electronic musician and multimedia artist Jonathan Warren Bechtolt (A.K.A. Jona Bechtolt, born December 2, 1980). YACHT has since 2009 included musician, writer and media artist Claire Evans whose vocals had been featured on previous YACHT recordings (I Believe In You. Your Magic Is Real). YACHT is based in Portland, Oregon, United States.
Bechtolt was born in Astoria, Oregon and began playing music as a teenager, dropping out of high school to play drums in his brother’s touring punk band. He started working with electronics in the late 1990s and began releasing solo records under the name YACHT in 2003. Nearly all of his recordings have been distributed by both marriage records and States Rights Records.
Claire Evans came of age playing in bands in the underground noise scene of Los Angeles, and was part of the Portland-based The World Court. She has presented her PowerPoint performances at MoMA PS1, The Kitchenand the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and has collaborated with Bechtolt on literally hundreds of projects since they met in 2004.
In 2003, Bechtolt was commissioned to create a full length audio/visual electronic pop opera by the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA). He performed with his group The Badger King with bandmate Marianna Ritchie (a Wolf Colonel and Dear Nora alumnus who went on to record alone as Manta, and then Mantar).

McPherson founded Alpha Rev in Austin, TX in 2005. The band released its debut album, “The Greatest Thing I’ve Ever Learned,” in 2007. With the release of its sophomore album, 2010’s “New Morning,” Alpha Rev left its halcyon indie days behind, but not its independent spirit. The single, “New Morning,” went to #3 on the Triple A radio charts and the record was produced by Grammy Award-winner David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes, Sublime) and mixed by legendary Micheal Brauer (Coldplay, U2, Travis).
On 2011’s “City Farm: Roots,” McPherson and company literally returned to their roots: the fans. Funded entirely with fan donations, the EP was recorded without a label. The band also turned away from contemporary recording practices in favor of a more traditional process. The tracks were all recorded live with all the musicians in the same room. This one-take approach harkens back to an earlier era, as well as demonstrating Alpha Rev’s continued commitment to sustainability and simplicity.
Already garnering critical acclaim as well as national interest, Alpha Rev’s songs have been featured on television shows such as Bravo’s “NYC Prep,” the ABC Family hit “Greek,” VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab,” and The CW’s “Melrose Place,” as well as the major motion pictures “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “The Last Song.” Alpha Rev has shared the stage with OneRepublic, The Black Crowes, Owl City, Guster, The Bravery, OK Go, Sara Bareilles, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Jason Mraz, among others.

Spune Presents:
- Moonface
- Siinai
Spencer Krug has made another record under the name Moonface, this time with the help of some new friends. The third product of an ongoing series of changing collaborations and approaches to tune-making is called With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery. Surprise, a two-part title. Let’s bust in to this brothel one door at a time.
With Siinai:
Siinai is the Finnish band Krug worked with on this album. They live in Helsinki, a beautiful town of extremes: dark, light, cold, steamy, stoic, drunk. Krug met Siinai when their former band, Joensuu 1685, toured with Wolf Parade throughout Europe in 2009. Friendships were born.
Krug asked if they wanted to make an album together, a collaboration wherein Siinai would perform the meat of the music, and Moonface would take care of the vocals (and ultimately a few licks on the keyboard). Siinai agreed. They started recording their rehearsals and sent the rough ideas formed in their Helsinki jam space to Krug in Montreal. The process continued: Siinai wove the baskets, laid down the coloured straw, while Moonface painted the eggs.
Heartbreaking Bravery:
The lyrical theme of this album is heartbreak. According to Krug, it was not planned, but became obvious halfway through the writing process. Some recently battered, still mildly swollen heart snuck its way into the first lyrics written, so he went with it. He wrote songs based on his own experiences with heartache, stories told to him by friends, and drummed up scenarios of ill-fated love that were absolute fiction. Altogether, the inevitability of life’s flawed and failed relationships, the shitty feelings we feel as a result, and the people we become (ugly, brave, violent, crawling like babies back toward the womb) while trying to deal with those feelings are the ideas explored in these songs. It is not a particularly original theme, but one Krug felt worth digging into, perhaps deeper than he ever has before.

Parade of Flesh Presents:
Shonen Knife, written in Japanese as 少年ナイフ, which transliterates as Shōnen Naifu, literally “Boy Knife,” is an all-female Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka, Japan, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock acts, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs expressing infectious melodies and simplistic, exuberant lyrics sung both in Japanese and English.
Despite their pop-oriented nature, the trio maintains a distinctly underground garage rock sound rooted in edgy instrumentation and D.I.Y. aesthetics, . . .

After three years of touring and world-wandering in the wake of 2007’s The Golden Hour, FIREWATER ringleader Tod A finally touched down in Istanbul, Turkey. “The city is fascinating. It’s a melting pot—a lot like NYC,” Tod says of his new hometown. “And with the revolutions going on all around, I knew we should record here.”
International Orange!, produced by Tod A and mixed by Tamir Muskat of Balkan Beat Box, carries on from where their previous collaboration, The Golden Hour, took off, slipping across new borders into uncharted territory. Created in Istanbul and Tel Aviv during the 2011 Arab Spring, their latest release captures the frenetic pulse of a world in the state of flux.
International Orange! continues in the proud FIREWATER tradition of cultural and stylistic mash-ups. High-energy Turkish percussion drives jagged guitars and horns on eleven anthems of frustration and hope, movement and transformation. The songs tap into grooves as disparate as Turkish maqsoum, Punjabi bhangra, Jamaican ska, Greek rebetiko, classic punk and old-school mambo. Muskat’s mixing aesthetic draws on everything from the Bollywood excess of ‘60s-era R.D. Burman to the early dub experiments of King Tubby. Yet the team manages to meld all these flavors into a cohesive whole, as only they can do.
